Its index is smaller than the two above, which matters most in non-English markets and long-tail keywords. For straightforward competitor keyword research at a small agency it is frequently sufficient, and the price difference against a comparable Semrush seat is not marginal.
The pattern across all three: they are excellent at search-derived competitive intelligence and approximate at total-traffic estimation. If your actual question is "which keywords are my competitors winning", any of them beats Similarweb. If it is "how big is this company", none of them fully replaces it.
The Free Sources That Beat Most Paid Estimates

What you can build. A scraping pipeline gives you first-party observation of things that are publicly visible: competitor pricing and how it changes, product catalogue size and churn, job postings as a hiring signal, SERP positions for the keywords you care about, review volume and sentiment, feature and content changes over time. Every commercial traffic figure for a site you do not own is a model output. A panel of some millions of users is observed, that panel is weighted to correct for the ways it is unrepresentative, and the result is extrapolated to the internet.
